I'm joining YouGov
(SORRY, LOST IMAGE)
TL,DR: I'm joining YouGov as a Senior Python Developer, working with the survey systems team.
Slightly Longer Version...
For the last 6 years, I've been working for Wells Fargo as a python developer and unofficial feature team lead for a team in their infrastructure technology organization. I started with Wells as a web developer (in fact my title remained Web Developer (level) for my entire career there) but my focus really become building and supporting systems that connected OpenStack and bank business systems. It was challenging, rewarding work, and the team that grew up around this effort is one of the best I've ever worked with.
But there came a time I looked around and realized that my work and responsibilities did not reflect the goals and priorities I had set for myself and my career.
My work with YouGov will involve lots of Python application development, naturally, but also give me exposure to big data, ETL processes, some statistical work, and some devops work. There's a lot that I can bring to the table, and a lot that I'll be learning, which is one of the things I was looking for in a new position.
I am really looking forward to this!
Here in the US, the folks to suffer the soonest and most will be the poor, minorities, the homeless... those in most need of the #socialsupport programs our current government earnestly works to destroy.
I'm trying to keep my social media exposure down because it's just adding to my stress, but this is my regular reminder that I am extraordinarily privileged to be currently riding things out while working from home.
Things will get worse, but right now there are SO MANY folks already suffering and I realize that.
The most anxiety-inducing space right now for me is my phone. Social media, blogs, everything... I'm mostly staying offline except for work and occasional updates from reputed sources. Keep yourselves home and safe.
"The law-enforcement branch of patriarchy"
Kate Manne, a philosopher at Cornell University, describes misogyny as an ideology that serves, ultimately, to reinforce a patriarchal status quo. “Misogyny is the law-enforcement branch of patriarchy,”

Axios: Elizabeth Warren suspending presidential campaign
It's not showing up on Elizabeth Warren's site yet, but Axios is reporting that Warren is suspending her presidential campaign. I'm heartbroken -- she was the smart, tough candidate that actually inspired me.
Senator Warren: Thank you for your leadership, your humility, your willingness to hold those in power accountable. You would have been an incredible president. Keep fighting for Americans and for what America should stand for.
