Cool! Apple released version 2 of its Remote Desktop software, which is now VNC-compatible, meaning you can use it to drive any VNC-equipped computer, including those running Mac OS, Windows, Linux, FreeBSD, even PalmOS!
This is exactly what Apple Remote Desktop - which started life as rather an underfeatured runt - needed to start playing in the enterprise market.

How Microsoft Lost the API War
Joel on Software > How Microsoft Lost the API War:
>None of this bodes well for Microsoft and the profits it enjoyed thanks to its API power. The new API is HTML, and the new winners in the application development marketplace will be the people who can make HTML sing.
Unbreakable
While assembling a ceiling fan tonight, I popped in our copy of Unbreakable, M. Night Shyamalan's 2000 non-hit movie. Jodi and I saw it in the theaters, and unlike 90% of the audience, loved it. It's slow and intense, artful and sometimes heavy-handed. One might call it "brooding".
a good motto
Another Word for Nerd: a good motto:
Testing a new feature. Please be patient.
This is a test. Please ignore.
Weblog Progress
Well, after a brief hiatus I spent some more time working on an import script for this site. I have a test site setup where I finally, last night, got all my archived posts imported - 1729 posts over four years, and 587 comments. The last few features to add to the import script are custom fields identifying the source of the message (Conversant) and the date of the import, so that if i ever want to display that information I can.
Sucker for the romantic comedy
I know, I know. I go into the video store and I can't stomach all the romantic comedies on the shelves. And yet... You've Got Mail comes on TV and I'm sucked into the perky, quasi-intelligent-sounding, annoyingly cute language and plot-lines tailor-made to tug on my heart strings and leave me with that awful feeling that my life will never feel that good.
RE: Shane Michael Ray Kilhefner, A Memorial
Corinne Dillingham, Seth's wife and mother to Shane, who died in an accident several months ago (his memorial), posted an incredibly touching update on life after losing someone you love dearly.
Blog To Email
Ok, one of the features that I had on my old site was a site mailing list. You could subscribe to the mailing list and get blog posts in your inbox. I've had at least one person (you know who you are!) go on about how he would not subscribe to the RSS feed and wanted the mailing list functionality.

Apple announces new Power Mac G5s today, including a liquid-cooled dual 2.5 ghz model. I wonder how much power those 2.5 Ghz chips are using? It must be putting off a lot of heat to require a liquid cooling system.

Apple - AirPort Express
Whoa! Apple announces AirPort Express, a power-supply-shaped AirPort base station with a new technology called AirTunes - it will wirelessly stream your itunes to your stereo by way of a 1/8" stereo output jack. Drool factor 5, Mr. Sulu!!
The Caddy Shack of the Web...
...Gopher refuses to go away. :-) See the internet as it used to be -- point your Mozilla-flavored web browser to gopher.quux.org. Wow, it's been a while since I've gopher'd. A blast from the past.

Update: MacWorld has a bit on how AirTunes works.
Wordpress: Kitten's Link Clicked
I was asking on MooKitty came to my aid with a nifty plugin, Kitten's Link Clicker. This post is a test.
Movie: Calendar Girls
Jodi and I are watching Calendar Girls, a cute and touching movie about a group of older women in England who decide to pose "semi-clothed" for a charity calendar. It's cute, but it's also deeper than I expected. Unlike The Full Monty, which ended on the triumphant note, Calendar Girls follows the women as they deal with the ramifications of their success. Rent it sometime, it's pretty good!
Blogging With NoteTaker
Blogging With AquaMinds NoteTaker. I'm thinking about how to write an OPML renderer for Wordpress (in PHP). Then I could upload outlines from Omni Outliner as blog posts... hm.
