Doug Bowman, designer and css guru, published yet another article dedicated to getting those of us who have not gone the "standards-compliant" route on our sites to make the leap.

Throwing Tables
Living the Dream in Boomtown
In 2002-2003, Jodi and I got seriously hooked on an intelligently-written and smartly-directed crime drama on NBC called Boomtown. Somehow, aliens managed to abduct the people at NBC smart enough to air this amazing bit of cinema, b/c the show was unceremoniously bludgeoned to death after 1 season and 4 episodes.
Calling iTunes
Bump: Apple announces plans to create iTunes for Motorola cell phones. As Robert says I didn't expect that. Indeed. Not sure how good an idea this is, guess we'll see.
Powerbook G4 sound issue
If you have a Powerbook G4 and your sound starts horking out, run the Apple Hardware Test (boot from the included disk, hold down Option and select "Apple Hardware Test"). It's possible that you'll get a logic board error 2ISS/1/5: 0x40
. If so, call AppleCare (you did get AppleCare, right?) and they'll hook you up.
Weblog "Greatest Hits"
Joi Ito links to a post by Seth Godin who mentions the idea of "greatest hits", or weblog posts that you (as the blogger) think people should read first when coming to your site.
Jonathan Schwartz' blog
Sun Microsystem's CEO, Jonathan Schwartz, has a blog. Now, I don't care a heck of a lot about what's going on at Sun, but I am enjoying hearing about life from Jonathan's POV. Largely he's using the blog to address issues that are facing Sun these days, like how they are going to monetize Java, or how to compete with "Free" software.
Movies!
Jodi and I managed to pick up a few more movies of interest today at Costco, listed herewith:
Rands is Right (The N.A.D.D. Justification)
Oooooh, Rands has a great justification for getting that 30" monstrosity from Apple. N.A.D.D.!
Idealism
On this day last year it was confirmed that I'm an idealist, a fact to which anyone who knows me would attest.
Form handling in PHP
I found out a cool feature of PHP today. I'm sure that every other PHP hacker on the planet already knows this, but I didn't ;-).
With Apologies to the Other Steve Ivy
Ok, so I've been doing some thinking about this whole other Steve Ivy thing. While 0wnz0ring the top spot on Google may be fun for bloggers who enjoy messing with PageRank, it's not really fair for someone like Steve Ivy, lead coin expert at Heritage Gelleries.
Fiscal Rant, ca. 2000
Now that I've got all my archives imported, I was watching the apache logs scroll by when the MSNBot requested this rant from Oct. 2000. It's got me wondering if my thoughts on the matter have changed any in 4 years. More on that later.
New Feedster, sponsored links, and *the other* Steve Ivy
Well, shoot. I had finally kicked this Steve Ivy off the first few pages of Google, now he (well, his company Heritage Coin) has purchased a well-placed sponsored link on the new Feedster. Yeargh! Foiled again!
Hats: Sunday Afternoons
If I get off my butt and start arranging it, I'm hoping to hike part of the Grand Canyon this fall with my brother-in-law. Being a hat-man myself, I immediately decided I would need an appropriate head covering for this adventure. Shelly LeSueur, Content Connections' adventuress-in-residence, suggested this magnificent-looking hot-weather hiking hat from a company called Sunday Afternoons.
Rejected site designs
There are good reasons some designs don't make the cut... is this an example of "graphic violence"?
On This Day In...
I added a new feature to monkinetic today: "On This Day In [year]". In the right column I've now got links to past years on monkinetic when there were posts on the current day's date. I've always liked the feature on Dave's Scripting News, and thought I'd finally implement it here. I think it adds a sense of time and history that is really cool.
Finally! Back to the future on Monkinetic
I've finally got my archives imported into WordPress. It took 3 months of piddling aroud with php, and more knowledge about mysql backups and hacking than I wanted, but it's done. Now I get to do the same for Jodi's site. Fun! :-)
Pardon My Dust
I'm in the process of preparing to import 1700+ weblog posts and 600+ comments from the last 4 years of the monkinetic weblog. I've had to make some archive url changes to accommodate, so please excuse the dust swirling around monkinetic today.
