Daring Fireball: Writing for Google >Neither of the last two articles were meant for you, however. They were written for Google. Or, more specifically, for people using search engines to find an answer to the same problems I had in the aforementioned articles.

Heh. I acquired a 2.2 hour recording today from one of my favorite German trance techno DJ's, Gary D. It's a mind-blowing trip -- listening takes me back to a 6+ hour show he put on in a small club in northern Germany back in '96 or so that was as fun as it was exhausting. If you like hard trance (which I do) his stuff is sublime. Curious as to whether he ever made it out of Europe, I Google'd him and found his website, D.TRANCE. Whew! It's as bright as the music is loud!

Jodi and I watched Open Range this weekend. I had heard good things about it, and had read some good reviews (esp. one at C.H.U.D. that I can't seem to find now). The movie was quite good; even Jodi, who's not typically a fan of westerns, thought so. The cinematography is amazing -- lots of sweeping views of georgeous rolling hills and skies. Open Range is not an "exciting" movie, for the most part, but as one reivew put it, it doesn't "fade" either - it seems to get more engaging as it goes.

Ok, when Jeff Veen pointed to the new blogger design, I thought, how good can it be? I mean, the previous design wasn't too bad...

Jodi and I were over at a friend's house for dinner the other day, and he had gotten the first season of The Jamie Kennedy Experiment on DVD, so we all sat down and watched some of it. Man, it is hysterical! Some of it was stupid and/or particularly rude, but Judge Jamie and Child Island had me on the floor rolling!! I would definitely try and catch it once in a while on TV now. Heh. Funny stuff.

BBC: Estonia embraces web without wires. My wife found this cool article about wireless in Estonia - this is very much like the phenomenon in Africa where they skipped installing landline telephone infrastructure b/c it was cheaper for everyone to get cell phones.

Well, I've mostly got (at least the front page) design done here, now I'm just waiting for my previous host to export my content from the old CMS so I can import it here.

My position with Content Connections is basically tech support / IT with some development thrown in. One thing I love about it is that I'm completely empowered to improve the things that we get complaints over.

This site is now run on Wordpress, a very cool, feature-rich blogging system. I've got a new host at a price that's hard to beat, and I'll have total control over the software and physical access to the server. Yay!

Jim has been a great friend to me over the years, from mailing-list-co-member to development mentor to friendly acquaintance, to real friend. I've watched him go through some really hard times and tried to stand with him as best I could.

I am so stoked that Jim is headed back to school, and has gotten himself out from under all the debt he found himself in as a result of the aforementioned hard times. Jodi and I are trying to do the same, tightening our budget so that we can retire some long-standing debt. It's incredibly freeing.
