The Digital Lifestyle cont'd

This NYTimes article describes Steve Job's recent revelation concerning The Digital Lifestyle, and some of his inspirations.

BrainForest-Scripting mailing list

In the absolute dirth of web resources for scripting Aportis Technologies' BrainForest, I've started brainforest-scripting, a new mailing list for people interested in using AppleScript (or other OSA-compatible language) and Brainforest.

RSSPuller - RSS and Outlines

rss-and-outlines

RSSPuller is an applescript applet that works with a fantastic Mac outliner called BrainForest. Brainforest Professional is the desktop version of a Aportis's Palm outliner. BrainForest is also very scriptable, with a flexible object model for manipulating outlines. Here's what you end up with from RSSPuller:

Dave and RSS: Stop Breaking My Software!

OK, I didn't trash Dave before. Now I'm ready to. Dave has made a big deal about RSS 0.91 being his format of choice for content syndication. Now he's developing RSS 0.92 on his own, and writing tools that not only use the new elements of RSS 0.92, but his software has stopped using the tags RSS 0.91 introduced! How are we supposed to join Dave's "flow" if he swaps out features on us?

Was I trashing Dave?

I know that very few people read this site, but for those who do, I have a question. Today on Scripting News Dave says:

RSS Puller

After spending time learning just about every other interesting scripting language undet the sun, I realized recently that I had totally neglected a powerful tool, right under my nose: Applescript.

Wrong Choice? Bzzzt

Dave thinks Apple made the wrong choice in buying NeXT Computer back in late 1996, and basing Mac OS X on it.

The Steves (Jobs and Ivy) do the Digital Lifestyle, Phase 1

At Macworld SF, Steve Jobs layed out Apple's vision for itself and the future of the Macintosh. In a 15 minute section of his keynote, he described the digital lifestyle, where our Macs become "Digital Hubs" that route information and media between the new generation of digital devices that are becoming more and more commonplace.

Fastlog

I've added a new page to this site - for those of you on slow connections or just think this page is too "heavy", I've created redmonk:fastlog.

U2 coming to Washington D.C June 14th

U2 (!!!) are coming to Washington D.C. - the closest large venue, on June 14th. I am gripped with the need to shell out $85 ea. for tickets.

BigShow redux

Don't know when the version changed, but version 0.2 of Aaron Hillegass's Powerpoint replacement BigShow is out and available for download. (Src is here) BigShow is GPL, "Mac OS X" only, and uses XML as an encoding format.

Macromedia / Allaire merge

Yahoo Finance - Macromedia to merge with Allaire. Hmmm. Guess we won't be seeing any support for WebObjects in Dreamweaver. Drat.

I had hoped to update here...

but it looks like I'm not oing to be able to get online here. Maybe tomorrow - there's a few Airport networks around that aren't password protected.

Hello From Macworld SF!

Yes, I'm posting this from MacWorld San Fransisco, specifically from the AppleCare/ Apple iServices booth. I think the internte cafe would be more appropriate, but it was full. ;-)
