Where are the good Sci-Fi movies?

Interesting in contrast to my earlier ST:Enterprise enthusiasm - a NYTimes (registration required):article - "filmmakers continue to be obsessed with "Star Wars"-like space operas and alien- invasion movies featuring a wide variety of slime things".

New Enterprise Pictures from Entertainment Tonight.

I warn you: I and a bunch of friends were TOTAL Star Trek:TNG fans. There are going to be a lot of Star Trek:Enterprise links here in the near future.

Speaking of... here's a synopsis of an interview Rick Berman gave TV Guide.

New Helmet

Since I'm riding again (another 2 miles of trails today) I just ordered a new lid for my head. I've been tossed enough times to know how important this is.

Life outside the web

New category here on Redmonk.Net: Life Outside The Web. Boy do I need one!

Next Ride

My next ride should be tomorrow afternoon. This time Scott, Don, and I (maybe Hans will come too). We're considering taking machetes along this time to make some more interesting trails. ;-)

Bart to Michael Stipe: Ay Carumba!

R.E.M. is going to be on the Simpsons in November. Right on. ;-)

R.E.M. show to be broadcast on The Coast

This week, one of our local radio stations, WKOC (The Coast) will be one of the affiliates re-broadcasting R.E.M.'s show at the Museum of Television and Radio in New York. Better catch that!

We are the knights who say.. Ni!

Yes, thanks to OSXGnu, I now have something new to not have time to learn: Python for OSX!

Ride for the day

Whew!

FourStones: Fourstones Blog

Victor Stone's Fourstones Blog is becoming a daily read for me. He has good links, and his essays are excellent.

Mozilla revisited

Well, two days into using Mozilla I'm still happy with it. It's so quick, and it renders exactly the same on my Mac OS X box as on my Windows 2000 box. Amazing. Even Microsoft with their billions can't do that. Open Source rocks.

Microsoft just bought the internet

If there was any doubt in your mind, check this out:

"As part of the deal announced on Tuesday, VeriSign said it will use Microsoft's HailStorm suite of fee-based services throughout its businesses, including its Internet domain registration."

Helma XML-RPC @ Jakarta

Jason Van Zyl: "I would like to propose the movement of the Helma XML-RCP package (http://xmlrpc.helma.org/) to Jakarta."

Please visit H2

I'm trying to convince my co-worker Hans to update his site, H2. He says he doesn't get enough traffic to justify the effort, so it's up to all of you out there to visit him.

Movable Filters as UI Tool

This article (via xblog) is really, really interesting. I would love to see an implementation of this in action.

Mozilla

Jim has started using Mozilla as his main browser. I've downloaded it and am checking it out. Jim s right - it's fast as... it's fast. But there are some nagging bits that are bugging me: The current gotcha is that I can't seem to drag bookmarks around in my "Manage Bookmarks" window. I want to! I really do! But Moz seems to not like drag and drop. How do I re-organizae my bookmarks then? Jim?

DADS

Via a link from Greg titus on the Cocoa-Dev list: the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has an online Dictionary of Algorithms, Data Structures, and Problems (DADS) - all the interesting bits of comp sci. ;-)

HDK Cycles

I found out that the bike shop I went to for years (1988 - 1996, when I stopped riding frequently) has a website. These guys are really knowledgeable. I'm looking for a shop closer to my neighborhood, but if I don't find one, I'm making these guys my shop of choice once again.

Stray Programmer?

Seth says: "Would you like to provide a foster home for a stray programmer? He's house trained, and can do tricks!"

Taking my life back

Well, it looks like I'm going to be buying a pickup from my brother-in-law, and this morning I bought a mountain bike. Finally! I got it pretty cheap, and it's a decent bike. Jodi's going to want me to spend some time getting her bike up to speed, then we can start riding together. ;-) I think we're going to also start going to the rock gym again.
