Shell script naming conventions

I'm working on a set of shell scripts at work to aid in deploying projects to our dev server and a test environment, as well as update a network database with information about the releases... and I'm having naming issues.

Layout Grid for web designers

While looking for advice in trying to develop a solid grid for designing a css-based layout for a site, I ran across this awesome visual grid by Andy Budd that can be set as a background on your design to show you pixel measurements on the page. He's also got a bookmarket so you can apply the grid to any design you're working on with a single click. W00!

Blog views

While reading blogHelper's post about using Wordpress as a CMS, I noticed the menu of views in the upper right corner. You can select "normal" (blog style), "discussions" (most commented posts), "book" (all posts arranged into a hierarchical book structure), or "best" (highest rated posts). I thought this was a very clever and interesting way to expose users to various aspects of the content.

Sound Opinions

Sound Opinions - Listen Critically- I can't find now where I got a link to these guys, but Sound Opinionsis a rock and roll *talk show* (sweet!) on Chigago Public Radio. It's excellent, geeky stuff, and it's a nice antidote to most music radio.

Land For Pride

Scott Adams, the creator of the way-too-like-real-life comic Dilbert, also has a blog and has commented a few times on the colloquially named "Middle East Crisis" (with surprising lucidity and insight). Today he discusses how both sides can be claiming victory, and gets a bit into cultural matters over there.

Intel Core 2 desktop processors -> Mac Pro?

Intel Core 2

A co-worker, Lee points out that Intel just posted info on new Core 2 Duo desktop and Core 2 Extreme processors. Looks pretty ripe for a new Mac Pro to replace the (cliche alert) aging G5 desktops, perhaps?

UPDATE: Mac Pro, yes, but Xeon based. W00!

WWDC 06 Starts Today

So, most of us Mac users don't care about a developer conference, right?

DarkRoom

Another app I've come to appreciate on the Mac is WriteRoom, a full-screen writing environment - nothing but blackness, green lettering, and you.

Adjusting

Today is my second day at the new gig and I'm getting used to a Windows environment. First installs included Firefox of course, and Eclipse.

Full "Franken-site" saga for Drupal.org

After some prodding, I posted the full, and slightly edited, "Building The Franken-site" saga on Drupal.org. It basically covers using XML-RPC as the glue to get Drupal content into a Wordpress template and vice-versa. The next version of this site (under construction now) will work this way.

Creating the franken-site

I'm planning out the next iteration of redmonk.net, and it involves more close integration between the Wordpress blog and the rest of the site in Drupal. If you're a Drupal hacker, please check out my progress here:

Fallen Angels

Jodi and the kiddo and I are out East, visiting the family for a real live vacation. Before leaving, I raided the bookshelves of a family friend, and came away with a couple of pulp sci-fi novels - perfect airplane reading.

Go Man, Go!

Two Fridays ago, I was laid off from Content Connections. After touching base with a few folks I knew, and sending out a number of resumes, one in particular came together rather quickly. I got an offer early last week.
