Johnny Cash, Dead at 71: 21 Reasons Why Johnny Cash Was Cool

ChartAttack has a list of 21 Reasons Why Johnny Cash Was Cool. What a great celebration of the original Man In Black.

Learning HTML. Again.

As I begin to work on writing cleaner HTML, with a goal of proper accessibility and standards compliance, I'm learning about HTML I'd never used before. A good example: I was looking for a way to semantically mark up an FAQ. In another context, I stumbled across definition lists (DL, DT, and DD) which I'd never used or understood.

Building a site using web standards

Russ Weakley's Max Design has a useful presentation on Building A Site Using Web Standards. I always enjoy seeing the process other designers go through.

Keynote-to-HTML

Tim Bray is upset that Keynote does not have an HTML export feature.

CSS Listutorial

Russ Weakley (of Max Design) responds to my previous comments about the lists on the Max Design site. He also kindly points us to a new tutorial he's put together on using background images with CSS to build even more creative lists.

Code Switching

Jason Kottke is talking about codeswitching, a phenomenon where several multi-lingual people will switch between languages in a single conversation. Having had some first and second-hand experience of this, I posted the following in the comments:

When You Talk Back, The Terrorists Win

BIll points us to this bit of absurdity from Donald Rumsfeld.

Neo-Conservatives For...?

I have a problem. I consider myself a neo-conservative, generally for fiscal conservatism and moderate on social issues. But I'm sick of Bush.

Stupid CSS List Tricks

Max Design has a really cool page detailing all sorts of interesting CSS techniques for styling HTML lists.

Edward Teller, H-Bomb Architect, Dead at 95

Someone mentioned to me today that Edward Teller was dead. I had no idea who Edward Teller was, or why (or if) I should be pleased (as this person seemed to be) that he was dead.

Breathed Back To LIfe!

Berkeley Breathed, creator of the shaper-of-a-generation-of-minds, "Bloom County", is bringing Opus the Penguin back to Sunday comics starting Nov. 23!!

Now Playing: MST3K

Now showing at the Ivy home: Mystery Science Theater 3000, The Phantom Planet.

I'll have a coffee, with a carcogenic sweetener!

|Bill| reviews the Weird Al concert we saw last night on the Phoenix Bloggers site. Favorite quote:

At their most beautiful...

Tim Jarret saw R.E.M. in concert. Sounds like an awesome show! They're going to be at Red Rocks Sept 13, but there's no way I can make it this year. ($54 before TicketMaster fees!)

In which case...

Eric Meyer went and saw Weird Al Yankovic...

Labor Day Weekend

Jodi and I took a real-life vacation this weekend! We drove out to Yucaipa, California, about 6 hours west of Phoenix. We saw the salton Sea (HOT and humid and boring), windmill farms around Palm Springs, got to go sailing with friends on the Pacific (launching from Long Beach) and go hiking in the mountains of San Bernardino National Forest.

Wakka Wakka Doo Doo Yeah!!

Oh, yeah! Sept 4, Dodge Theater, Phoenix...

Perma-Wiki

BlueOxen has a Wiki implementation with perma-links. Kinda oxymoronic, but cool.

Back On The Air

Jim points out that we're back on the air. Yay!
