Good Grief - More on Nimda

more-on-nimda

The Nimda virus uses IIS, Outlook, AND Internet Explorer. Um, HELO?? Ever wonder about the fact that ALL THREE of these products are made by one company?

"This means that if you go and browse a page and you don't have the correct security on your browser, it looks as though the Javascript attempts to forward the virus from your machine to everyone in your contacts book." Cluley said the suspicion is that only Internet Explorer is vulnerable to this exploit..."

Engineering the excavation of the WTC

[via dangerousmeta!] Engineers Tackle Havoc Beneath trade Center. Extremely intersting article about the challenges involved. The WTC was an engineering marvel in every way.

First decent idea I've heard in a while

I have no idea if this proposal would work, but I like the idea of combining strength and compassion, something Americans have occasionally proven themselves capable of.

McCusker's on a roll

Another set to add to my reading list: Count of Monte Cristo (original by Dumas), and the 5 SF tomes David mentions here.

And...

Ich kanne auch ein bißen Deutsche spretchen.

1.6 Ghz-G5-powered Macs in January?

Motorola completes 1.6GHz PowerPC G5. "Beyond far higher clock speeds, the G5 will be a full 64-bit chip, but will support 32-bit addressing at full speed. The part will also support multi-processor configurations."

Sample WO Code: SOAP client/server

tmk posts a pointer on Jim's site to some new Apple sample code that implements a simple SOAP server and client in WebObjects. Coooooool.

And did I hear you say...

Today's song: Midnight Oil, My Country.

Sunrise on a new week

The drive in this morning was beautiful. As the days get shorter my morning drive has come closer to dawn. This morning the sunrise was amazing - the air was clear and crisp, the sunlight stretching itself over downtown Portsmouth was warm and bright. Nice way to start the week.

XML-RPC for Obj-C

Woo-hoo! Mulle-Kybernetic releases an XML-RPC implemention for Obj-C. Now I can rewrite Sid.

She Speaks Her Mind

Jodi has started a blog of her own, and believe me when she says she speaks her mind, she means it. ;-) Check it out.

Nate does the patriotism thing

Nate, who goes by the hacker alias Nullgel, does the patriotism thing in his own way. Check out this American Flag made out of Lego.

More potential terrorists apprehended

ABC News: "Officials also said they had multiple fake IDs, knives, and flight certificates from Flight Safety International in Vero Beach, Fla., one of the schools the suspected terrorists were allegedly trained.

Analysis Overload

Been doing a lot of detail software design and analysis lately. Sometimes it just gets to be too much.

Mixed Emotions

I'm struggling with mixed emotions this morning. I wrote some notes while this site was down and I couldn't post. I'll post them later. I thought I was getting over the shock, but now that personal stories are coming out, I'm wounded more than ever.

New Iwo Jima

This image may one day be as famous I think as the photo of the marines at Iwo Jima.

Inexorable Flow of Time

GlennLog: Inexorable Flow of Time. Glenn Fleishman's weblog has some good, random, thoughts today. A nice bit: "Yasir Arafat looked legitimately shaken. I'm sure he didn't know. But this is what it takes to affect a man like him. This is the kind of event that changes lives, even lives like his."

Thoughts

Staring into the blackness

Silent witness where there are no words.

Music To Grieve By

I've started a WTC Mix... right now it includes: "In The End" and "One Step Closer" by Linkin Park, "Dragula" by Rob Zombie, "Alive" by POD, "Leave You Far Behind" by Lunatic Calm, "The Winner" by Crystal Method. Make it hurt. Make it loud.
