Monkinetic Weblog

I should never pay attention to the weblog popularity contests/ link-tracking sites like Technorati, because I'm not a popular blogger and will likely never be. I'm interested in too many things, and get distracted too easily. I'm rarely effectively witty, and too clever for my own good. I don't write too badly, but I'll never win an award for it, and the only time I'm gaspingly passionate is when I'm about to stick my foot in my mouth.

Well, I was getting tired if working in the living room, so Jodi and I went about redoing our home office today.

Well, yesterday Jodi and I went hiking with her cousins, Brady and Carly. This morning I got up and went mountain biking with them. I've not had this much cardio-vascular exercise in ages, and I'm feeling it!

Following a megnut link about a job listing Meg posted to Craig's List, I found that the Craig's List site is really cool. It seems to be a site that allows the creation of online communities - there's a big one for New York, one for Phoenix, etc. I think I'm going to add this site to my collection of places to look for jobs. I noticed that the few postings I looked at were written in a person's voice - not the Recruiter-droid&trademark lingo you hear on most other job sites.

Jodi's cousins are in town for a couple days. We went out to the Superstition Mountains to hike the Peralta Canyon trail. We had an awesome time, got some great exercise, and saw some cool scenery.

As previously mentioned, I've made some improvements to the site this evening. I've added a link to this (monkinetic) weblog to the section navigation; I also added a couple subscribe links to the discussion navigation, too (for the mailing list and rss) to make it easier for folks to find out what's going on here. Not many people may know that this site is also a mailing list! That's right - messages posted to this site are delivered to the mailing list, and replies on the list appear here on the site as well.

As a Christmas present, a friend gave me a license to Objective Development's Launchbar. This is the coolest little utility on OS X - and I'm even more happy to use it now that they've made the file scanning process much faster. Thank you!!

Mark Pilgrim is doing something cool with his weblog posts: by searching the posts for HTML CITE tags, he now has a view of his posts sorted by who he was citing. Very useful. I don't think he needed the more-semantic-than-thou snarkiness to make his point though.

Jodi got me some of my favorite presents this year. We're a bit tight, but she found some great gifts!

Dave is wondering at the snow in NYC. Here in Phoenix it was 60&degree. :-) No snow here.

Jodi's family (parents and younger brother) just got into town. SkyHarbor Airport was (as to be expected) a madhouse, but we successfully managed to find them, reunite them with their luggage, and get them home. Since being out here, we've reallly missed family, so it's really really nice to have them here!

According to Dave, the Register is reporting thatMicrosoft may want to buy Macromedia, makers of Flash, Freehand, Dreamweaver, and other graphics and web applications. Evidently they want Flash MX, so it can become YAJK (Yet Another Java Killer) on the web.

I'm going to kick myself for this later I'm sure (for making commitments I can't, or won't, keep) but I think this next year I'm going to try to sit at the computer less, but get more done while I'm there. This includes blogging, since it's the only writing practice I get, and I need to focus outwards sometimes.
