Really it's "I want to ingest ec2 events into this neat api I'm making"; I'm 5 services deep in configuration right now. EC2, IAM, VPC, Cloudwatch, Lambda - and I have yet to get the EC2 data I want, and not even close to thinking about how to send out any data.

Remember when you could go read REST API docs for AWS services? Now I have no clue how to determine what, for example, cloud watch events for ec2 instances may look like?

All the docs are "go set up these 5 AWS services so you can see the 6th in action"
